Ginger is having a moment – and not just in your own kitchen cupboard. According to a recent survey of 1,000 UK adults carried out by Fentimans, over 84% of Brits say they’d choose a drink if it contains ginger. From ginger tea to bold mixers and ginger beer, the flavour is firmly back in the spotlight.

And for Fentimans, it’s a proud moment. Our iconic Ginger Beer first launched way back in 1905, and it’s seen a 25% rise in supermarket sales over the last two years! As the UK’s number one premium ginger beer, Fentimans is celebrating the nation’s renewed love of ginger with a limited-edition 750ml bottle coming later this spring.

A Bold Comeback for a Classic Flavour

The research, conducted to celebrate 120 years of Fentimans, revealed that ginger beer is the UK’s favourite ginger drink, with 51% of people naming it as their top pick. Ginger tea came in a close second, with interest in ginger shots and other health drinks also on the rise.

Why the love for ginger? The numbers reveal that 62% of people enjoy its bold flavour, while 57% choose ginger drinks for their perceived health benefits. Whether it’s aiding digestion, supporting energy, or simply tasting great, ginger is appealing to people of all ages and lifestyles.

Who’s Drinking Ginger (and Why)?

Millennials (35–44) are the biggest ginger drink fans, with nearly half saying they’re very likely to choose a ginger-based drink.

Gen-Z (18–24) are leading the charge on ginger shots (43%), while being the least likely to opt for ginger beer.

Consumers aged 55+ favour ginger beer (72%) and associate it with nostalgia and tradition.

Regional Ginger Favourites

Ginger drinks are particularly popular in some regions of the UK:

  • London leads the way, with 60% of residents very likely to choose a ginger drink.

  • In the North East – home of Fentimans – ginger beer is the clear winner, chosen by 53% of respondents.

  • Northern Ireland and the North West are the least likely to consume ginger drinks overall.

A Taste 120 Years in the Making

Here at Fentimans, we have been perfecting our ginger flavour through the art of Botanical Brewing since 1905. Our Marketing Director Jayne Andrews said:

“When Thomas Fentiman took a Ginger Beer recipe as security for a loan, he was on to something! After more than a century it’s incredible to see it is still loved by so many Brits today – with more demand than ever.”

To mark the 120th year, Fentimans are bringing out a limited-edition 750ml Ginger Beer bottle in supermarkets across the UK – a modern take on the original, Botanically Brewed recipe that has stood the test of time.

Whether you’re drawn to its flavour, its heritage, or its health potential, ginger is officially the UK’s favourite spice for 2025 – and Fentimans is proud to be leading the charge.
